Last Saturday was our Michigan AGCI picnic! And yes, although David and I don't have children yet, we attended with the two of us and our cheesy smiles :) We felt a little funny at first, because we had nobody to talk to but each other. And being a bit shy, we didn't really know where to start. But before we knew it, our social worker from AGCI started introducing us to lots of other couples that live nearby. It was so fun to meet other families that have adopted, and people we can actually get together with!
We saw our neighbors at the picnic, who we met this summer at their garage sale. They have two beautiful children adopted from Ethiopia, and two beautiful bio children as well. You can read about when we met them here. It was fun to see them at the picnic. We also got to meet our Caseworker, *K*, which was awesome. We have talked with her and emailed, but now I actually know who I am talking to, and can put a face to the person who will someday be calling with a referral!
Another funny thing that happened was our social worker introduced us to another family. She walked over and said, "Have you met Jill?" And Jill immediately said, "You look really familiar. Do you have a blog?" Haha!! I was thinking she looked familiar too, but couldn't place her face. She is Jill from Five and Counting! There is a huge community of AGCI blogging families, and other adopting families out there, many of which I follow and read about. I begin to feel like I know these people, even though I haven't ever actually met them. What a great treat to be able to meet Jill in person! She has three beautiful little girls, and it waiting for their 4th child, a little boy, from Ethiopia!
This is a picture of David eating a snow cone. Its the only one I took at the picnic. I didn't want to be creepy and take pictures of other people's children, although there were TONS of beautiful children there.
Hopefully we can make a habit of getting our West Michigan families together more often!
