Airports

We left yesterday.  In the morning.

And now we're in Washington D.C. after a 24 hour layover.

We actually used a travel agent, and I really like him.  He signs his emails with weird little quirky comments like, "go - go - go, Mike."  It makes me giggle.

And when he first showed me this flight I thought it was ridiculous.  Why would I want to stay overnight in D.C. on my way to Ethiopia?  But he also showed us other options, and somehow we ended up choosing this one.  I think mostly because our trip home is SO much better, and with two little peanuts with us, that is what matters.  Who cares that we had to get all of our 6 pieces of luggage to a hotel, and then recheck it all this morning?  TOTALLY worth it for our flight home.  Plus we got a free cookie when we checked into the hotel, so there's that.

And even though I never have any trouble with security, my carry on bag was searched in Grand Rapids AND D.C.   Different bags each time.

In GR, My carry on had 2 refill pouch things of formula, and apparently they couldn't tell if it was liquid or powder. So they ran it through again after searching my bag.  Very politely, might I add.  (Thank you, security guy for pretending not to see my underpants in the top meshy part of my bag.)

So in D.C. I took those out to be scanned separately - like the guy told me to do in GR. In D.C. they also asked me to take out all my liquids.  So I pulled out my baggies (yes - MULTIPLE baggies) of liquids ranging from travel shampoo and toothpaste to hand sanitizer and mascara.   I was a little worried about this because I thought there might be a limit to how many baggies of liquids you could have, but the guy didn't say anything.  Even then my backpack needed to be searched.  ALSO very politely.  They weren't a fan of my bottles with liners.  Thought they had liquid in them.  They didn't.  Rescanned them and my backpack.  The bottles were fine, but my backpack was not.  After further digging we found YET ANOTHER baggie of liquids.  This time it was full of baby lotion, soap, hair lotion, etc. for the boys.  Oops.  Missed that one.  I got a firm shake of the head from the security guard.  Then an even more exasperated look from my husband - AS he walked passed me and pretended he wasn't with me.  Thanks love.  :)

Then we were cleared.  Now we're sitting at the airport - waiting to board in about an hour.

I can't wait :)

MacKenzie,
I stumbled upon your blog--and I'm so glad I did!!! First of all, we're praying for y'all. We're from Grand Rapids (currently living in NC), but we're hoping to move home soon (all our family lives in GR/Byron Center/Holland area). I would LOVE to connect with y'all someday (playdates?!) We received our referral 2 weeks ago for a 21 month old boy--and now the real wait begins!

Blessings and safe travels.
